Over the past few days, Sofie had been in contact with Leen, our friend who lives near Munchen. Her baby is due any day now and if he or she would decide to come and greet the world, we would change our route and make a detour past Munchen again to greet the newborn. But still no sign of the baby. We guess it’s pretty good sitting close to mom, so we set out the route for the coming days: through Austria past some nice mountain passes, into Germany and France, and then on towards home.
In the morning the thunderstorm has eased of and we are greeted with a beautiful sun and clear skies. Happy days!
First stop: Jaufenpass!
And a huge breakfast: ham sandwich, apple cake and hot chocolate!
Then it’s on to the Timmelsjoch and it seems we are catching up with the remainders of last night’s thunderstorm: cold temperatures, grey skies and still a lot of snow on the mountaintops.
Along the way, we pass some interesting architectural structures. It turns out we are on a scenic route with regular stops to inform tourists about the natural riches and interesting wildlife up in these mountains.
After the Timmelsjoch it goes down and into Germany. Our aim for today is the Bodensee. But first we spot this little shop and we just have to stop!
The area around the Bodensee and especially Bregenz turns out to be very busy. So we ride along the shoreline for a while in search of a more quiet spot. After an hour or so, we find a nice camp site right at the lake, with restaurant! Nice!
Our spot for the night.
Our neighbours arrive and before we know it, 2 cups of pastis are being put into our hands we have to join them for their aperitif. They head off for dinner and we go and check out that restaurant.
