The first of May turns out to be a Friday, so long weekend ahead! We have 4 days to spend and 2 brand new bikes that urgently need their camping maiden trip. The plan is to go to Saint-Lunaire, Brittany to eat some oysters and mussels!
We set out early on Friday and the first part of the trip will be highway to get us out of Belgium. Then it’s on to French Nationales and Departementales. Somewhere along the way, we spot a huge construction on a hill side. We’re not sure what it is, so we decide to go and check it out. It turns out to be a memorial for the Canadian soldiers who fought for these hill sides in World War I.
The site is pretty impressive and we walk around for an hour to take it all in.
The statues are really impressive and very big.
Not only Canadians lost their lives on this spot.
When we get back to bikes it’s nearly lunch time and we decide to ride back to a cafe we spotted going up the hill.
After lunch we ride on to Normandy. The aim today is Honfleur. I know there is a small camp site just outside the centre.
We put up our tent and then we head out to the village to find some dinner.
Beer O’Clock! Or better Calvados O’Clock!
And a galette of course!
